World Heart Day 2020; Women With PCOS & Risk of CVD

“World Heart Day” is observed on 29 September every year. It is a global campaign initiated by the “World Heart Federation” in May 2012. The objective of this campaign was to reduce the death rate due to heart disease in the world. Do you know that 50% of the total deaths due to non-communicable diseases occur due to heart diseases? Not only this, but heart diseases and heart attacks have become number 1 cause of death on the planet, and every year about 179 lakhs deaths are due to heart disease. The purpose of celebrating World Heart Day is to spread awareness among people towards heart disease and tell about the ways to avoid it. Taking this link further, this year’s theme is – Use Heart to Beat CVD (Cardio Vascular Disease)

“Use Heart” means ….

1. Use heart to understand what to do to live with a healthy heart? We can make healthy choices like quitting use of tobacco, limiting the use of alcohol, taking healthy diet and doing regular exercise and Yoga.

2. Use heart to help others to overcome their difficulties they are facing during this Covid-19 period.

3. Use heart to show your gratitude towards health care providers including all the medical, paramedical and cleaning staff of hospitals

4. Use your heart to spread awareness regarding the danger and preventive measures of heart diseases.

Women with PCOS & Risk Of CVD:

Because I work more with women and I have a special inclination towards their health related problems or I can say my field of specialization is “hormonal issues in women” , So here I would like to inform all my female readers that, according to one research, it was found that women with PCOS were at 19% higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease than women who did not have PCOS. The reason behind this is ,PCOS risk factors, like being overweight or having insulin-resistant diabetes or higher blood pressure, are associated with cardiovascular disease. Some studies report that CRP (C-reactive protein which are inflammatory markers) levels are higher in women with PCOS, confirming the hypothesis that diabetes induced CVD by chronic inflammation in PCOS patients.  So, ladies!  you have to take more care of your heart.
